About Me :)
Hello! I’m Zack, I have a bachelor's degree in animation and Visual effects from Red Deer Polytechnic and often find myself in artistic roles as well as management. On top of that, I have also worked on film sets. I moved to the Vancouver area in late 2023 from small town Saskatchewan in order to break into the animation industry. I have a few hobbies, like watching all genres of film, being a part of the local Vancouver fighting game community, working on personal projects like drawing, video game design, and working on my portfolio
Below I will share my qualifications and tell some stories that show off my capability as a problem solver in more detail then a resume can fit.
My Bachelor’s Degree in Animation and VFX
My degree featured classes for roles all over the animation pipeline. I learned a comprehensive understanding of the what it takes to make an animation through a mix of industry professionals and working artists. Through the assortment of classes, I had the opportunity to use and work with many different types of software like Autodesk Maya, the Adobe Suite, SideFX Houdini and Unreal Engine. On my own time I spent a lot of time learning Unreal’s pre-production capabilities, clip studio paint, and Da Vinci Resolve. Through electives, I also studied the film industry as a whole with a specialization in Film Noir. With these electives I learned how to discuss film as an art and understand how films are made on a people level.
Growing to be a Leader at VIP Cineplex
I am currently in a role of leadership at VIP Cineplex as a Cast Leader. I manage and direct a rotating group of 3 - 8 people a day, while coordinating with other departments of the theatre to support their needs. I have to efficiently delegate tasks to make sure food and drinks can be served to up to 200 guests at any moment as fast as possible. Other responsibilities I have are organizing the tips for me and my coworkers as well as making sure the stock is counted correctly. Although I was recently promoted to this position in November 2025, I have been falling into this role of leadership since being given my employee of the month award in December 2024.
Research Team Member and Illustrator for Para-Sport Research
I was contracted by Red Deer Polytechnic to help with some animation and illustration work. During the contract, I consulted with multiple different clients, in and our of the school, and art work for engineering presentations and for a research presentation.
I want to talk more about the presentation because I think it's pretty cool. Our client is an engineer working on research to create cheaper equipment for para-sport and connecting people in the para-sport community together better. So a buddy and I got to work creating animations and graphics to help clearly showcase the roadblocks our client intended to solve.
Leading the Charge for Tourism in my Local Community
Before moving out to Vancouver, I worked in tourism in my small town during the summers I wasn’t at college. During that last summer, we had a curve ball thrown at us. The employee on the board who was in charge of the visitor centre found new work, and and the town had to find someone to fill in the space and figure out how to set up our visitor centre before the summer rush with little time to spare.
Since I happened to be the only senior member on the team, I took charge and guided the set up of the visitor centre. I told them how we tracked and stored information of guests and how we displayed all of the merchandise and pamphlets. I also often called local business to learn information to better inform our guests. The new team relied on me and my knowledge and we were open on time and set up correctly and on time. My supervisor said that the centre would’ve had open if not for me. I’m very proud of my work there.
Volunteer Shift Lead at the Golden Spike Days Festival
During the 2025 Golden Spike Days Festival at Port Moody, I volunteered as a shift lead where I managed a rotating group of volunteers. My job was to place volunteers in different stations, rotate volunteers to fill in breaks for other volunteers, provide information and listen to concerns from guests and volunteers, solve issues with the staff as they appear, and fill in roles where need be. I gain valuable people skills guiding and supporting the volunteers, staff, and guests to create the best festival experience possible. While it was a tough weekend, I believe we pulled off a successful event.
